In addition two hours of set dancing, I also do half an hour of steps at each class.
During this half hour, I cover set dancing steps and do a bit of Sean Nós solo dancing.
If you can manage to make it along to the half hour of steps, it will be a big help at the set dancing part of the class, but,
if you can't be there for the steps part, it's not a problem, we also spend some time on steps during the main class.
Set Dancing Steps:
Depending on what set we are doing at the time, we will work on a reel/hornpipe step or a polka/jig step during this part of the class.
Sean Nós Steps:
Over the years, I have learned steps, in different styles, from a number of Sean Nós dance teachers, including Padraig O hOibicin, Mick Mulkerrin and Aidan Vaughan. While my class is mainly about set dancing, I typically spend spend some time during the Steps section of the class passing on some of the Sean Nós steps that I have learned.
I have been asked by people attending the class to write up a prompt sheet to help with remembering the steps when practicing at home. The following summary will make no sense at all to people who haven't attended my classes, but hopefully might be of some use to people who have:
